Our History

Since 1967 Valley Industries has been a constant source of a competent and skilled labor force for companies in St. Louis and throughout Missouri and other states. A not for profit organization, the workshop is geared to meet the sub contract and the special project needs of business and industry.

The workshop was started in Florissant in 1967 as Florissant Valley Sheltered Workshop, with a work force of 15. Throughout the years the workshop continued to grow. More additions were added and surrounding buildings were bought in order to meet the growing customer base and workforce.

In keeping with a long standing commitment to meet the constantly changing needs of business… and to foster growth and development within our own organization, the Florissant Valley Sheltered Workshop added a second location in 1990, bringing the workforce to a total of 185 employees and a staff of 27.

In June of 2001, the workshop proudly opened its new 59,000 square foot facility in Hazelwood Missouri. This new building allowed us to consolidate our Florissant and Olivette facilities into one outstanding, state of the art workshop. The workshop was renamed Valley Industries. The total number of employees and staff continues to increase.

In 2005 due to the unfortunate closure of a workshop in St. Louis County, Valley Industries was asked to absorb 31 additional employees. We were pleased that we had the capability to do so and through that process created employment opportunities for 31 adults with disabilities who otherwise would have become unemployed. With this addition, we now serve in excess of 200 adults with disabilities. Our employee base continues to expand.

In 2007, Valley Industries earned our ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System from BSI Registrars. The highly recognized certification of the ISO 9001:2000 standard ensures that Valley Industries’ quality management system and processes are controlled and will continuously improve. These controls not only ensure customer satisfaction, it also shows Valley Industries’ commitment to continuously improve our customers’ satisfaction.

In June of 2011, we earned another 3 year recertification of our ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System from BSI Registrars. Improving product conformance and internal operating processes will increase our efficiency. In addition this will provide a better value for our customers by our ability to continually produce high quality product. We sailed through both our initial certification major audit, and our recertification audits without any non conformances! This gives our customers the confidence to know that we have the expertise, processes, and commitment to get the job done!

Today our goal is to add more employees as new contracts are landed. The heart of Valley Industries is its employees. Each employee is 21 years of age or older and has been diagnosed as developmentally disabled. The workshop provides these individuals with an opportunity to be gainfully employed, and work to the best of their abilities… to develop skills and, most important, to function as contributing tax paying members of the community.

Our supervisory staff is highly proficient at devising efficient systems, maintaining quality control and adapting or developing employees’ skills to meet new tasks. We have on-site trainers to help improve job capabilities, social skills, and productivity.
